Take a look at this list for starters:
There are numerous universities in the United States that offer excellent doctoral programs in English Literature. You may want to begin your search by using the following sites:
Yale University
1)
2)
3)
4)
5)
6)
Some of the universities offering excellent doctoral programs in English Literature include, but are not limited to the following list:
1) Stanford University
2) University of California at Berkeley
3) Old Dominion University
4) University of Chicago
5) University of Pennsylvania
6) Cornell University
7) Harvard University
9) American University
10) University of Maryland
Now, even though all of these institutions are of excellent instructional value, you may not be able to afford the tuition. Places such as Yale are extremely expensive and you must take this into consideration. Do not ignore the smaller universities and colleges that offer doctoral programs in English Literature, as these may offer smaller class sizes, along with the lower tuition cost, and have a much more intimate setting resulting in a greater learning arena.
Take some time and do a tremendous amount of research before making your final decision. Interview your chosen institution(s) and then sit down and decide which program will offer you the greatest reward. Remember, you will have to live with your decision for at least 3 to 10 years, because you not only have to take the required coursework, but will also be writing your dissertation during your tenure at this institution.
Good luck!
