This might give you some ideas of what to cram or read quickly for a reference point. One thing, medievel and renaissance literature dealt with religious issues of madness or possesion, power, nobility and royalty and it’s corruption, example: Hamlet or Richard the third. Restoration brit lit was much about the individual man, logic, reason and scientific thought and the immergence of imperialists such as Locke. Madness being some form of personality and body malady rather than for the sake of drama alone. Think Swift and his populist satires about power corruption and the beginning of the Industrial age.
