I was rejected from the NYU PhD program, but invited to apply to a master’s program. Why?

I am currently an undergraduate, and I knew it was ambitious to apply to a PhD straight out of college. As expected, I was not accepted into the PhD program in Comparative Literature, but I was invited to apply to the Master’s in Literary Studies by simply writing a new statement. It says I was one of the few selected to do this. Should I do this?
Phd Comparative Literature at UC Berkeley - Do I have a chance?

I’m looking at Phd programs in comp lit. I was hoping someone out there could evaluate how realistic my chances are at getting into Berkeley. Is anyone familiar with what it takes to make the cut?
My profile: GRE 700V (96%), 780Q (88%), 4.5AW (51%);
UNC-Chapel Hill: undergrad GPA 3.55 with double major in English/French lit;
two years study abroad;
intermediate classes in spanish, italian, ancient greek, anglo-saxon (Old English).
If Berkeley is a longshot for me, what other West coast schools should I consider?
Thanks!

Wish to study in PHD; mixing IT, teaching and Literature, send me cheap online universities’ sites. Thanks

I am a university teacher in English literature and non-native. I am quite familiar with software programming and teach esl students with my own software. I wish for a combination of IT, teaching, software and literature in my PHD thesis. Please inform me of any online university which accepts my software as my PHD thesis. Looking eagerly forward to your kind answers.

What is the most common literature curriculum/reading list in the USA universities?

Hi,
Can you help me with this one?
I would like to learn the most common books that you would be asked to read/analyze in a typical US university. I am thinking about studying in the US and I would like to be prepared.
Thank you for help!
Am I too young to work on my PhD?

I am currently living in Japan and just received my master’s in education (my BA was in English). I eventually want to work as a college professor and was thinking of getting into a doctorate program but am wondering if my age would be a factor. For the record, I am 26 and have been teaching for only 2 years. What would getting a doctorate degree entail if in the area of literature, English or writing? Any tips? Thanks in advance!
I am American and want to live and teach back in the States but have been told in order to work on your PhD you need to have worked in the specific subject of the field you want to study for several years. Could that prevent me from getting into a program?
Which universities should I apply to for a PhD in English with a concentration in women’s literature?

I plan to apply this fall to PhD prgrams, and I am looking for schools that particularly have a focus on women’s literature and gender studies in their English department. I already have a few in mind, but I’d like some more schools to consider. If you have any suggestions of schools I should check out, I’d really appreciate it. Thanks!
What are my chances of transferring to Dartmouth?

I’m a high school senior now and have accepted admission to a tier 1 state school. I didn’t really think of Dartmouth until after I’d accepted to the other school but I want to go there for their film studies program and their agreement to waive tuition to anyone whose total family income is less than 70,000 a year is a definite motivator.
Here are my senior year high school stats:
Grammar & Composition: 96/A
Pre-Calculus: 94/B+
British Literature: 100/A+
American Government: 98/A+
Spanish 2: 99/A+
Physics: 100/A+
Religion: 99/A+
College Prep Vocabulary: 95/A-
Economics: 100/A+
Algebra 2: 90/B-
Art: 100/A+
4.0 unweighted GPA
1700 SAT
Drama Club: 1 year
Debate Team: 1 semester
Yearbook/Prom/Construction Fund Organizer: 2 years
I took Algebra 2 for a second time as an elective, I passed it the year before.
I also took 2 college classes last semester and 4 this semester:
Expository Writing: A
Psychology: B
Theatre Appreciation: B
Philosophy: B
Sociology: A
Environmental Biology: A
[The last 4 grades are what I have currently]
I went to a liberal arts private school. We didn’t have AP classes but all the classes were Honors.
I know Ivy Leagues are extremely selective when choosing transfer admissions, so what are my chances if I maintain at least a 3.5 GPA while at the state school?
